A public health / environmental scientist with over 17 years experience as a Scientific Officer with the Malaysian Ministry of Health at state, federal and institutional level.

Expertise in public health/epidemiology, environmental health, surveillance/monitoring and investigation of water quality pollutants, health risk assessment, hospital engineering/indoor air environment for an ultimate vision of improving population health.

Roles and responsibilities have been laboratory and programme management, capacity building, policy setting, regulatory establishment and implementation, data analysis/management and evaluation, auditing and accreditation, training of staff as well as research and project management.

Recently completed a PhD (2016) on water pollution remediation supervised by national/international water experts, Prof Dato' Seri Ir. Dr Zaini Ujang, Prof Ir. Megat Johari and Prof Dr. Norio Sugiura at Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology, UTM Malaysia (MJIIT, UTM) in collaboration with University of Tsukuba, Japan.

Managed/conducted 13 research projects (6 in water quality, 3 in clinical epidemiology at Clinical Research Centre, 3 at Institute for Medical Research and 1 on water pollution remediation for my PhD). Published 2 journal articles, 5 manuscript drafts, 60 over technical reports including public and estate water surveillance reports, water treatment sanitary survey and audit reports, water treatment health risk assessment reports and water quality/public health investigation reports. Delivered over 10 oral presentations, 5 poster presentations at national/international conferences.

Provided lectures and training throughout the country. In addition, serve as reviewer for journals including UPM Pertanika Journals (Journal of Science and Technology) and conferences such as Ozwater conferences and other international journal/conferences.

Prominent work experiences as a Scientific Officer, Ministry of Health Malaysia:

  • Principal Scientist/Researcher - Institute for Medical Research (Sept 2013 - current). Currently involved in public health/epidemiology research projects. Served as facility management team for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) OECD accredited research laboratory 2013-2015.

  • Head of haematology unit at the National Blood Centre (Jan 每 Aug 2010) - managing a laboratory accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) of Australia

  • Principal investigator (public health researcher) - managing mortality-related epidemiology projects for 6 months (2009 每 2010) at the Clinical Research Centre

  • Federal level regulatory roles in the Privatized Hospital Support Services (2007 每 2009). Led the Environmental & Engineering Infection Control activities for Healthcare Facilities and Secretariat for the Committee on Handling Fungus Infestation in the Healthcare Facilities.

  • World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Liaison Officer (2006-2007), assigned by Deputy Director General (Research & Technical Support), to facilitate WHO Programme Budget by liaising with 42 division/state directors of Ministry of Health Malaysia

  • National Drinking Water Quality Surveillance Programme (2000 每 2007) at State and Federal government for management of programme and policies, implementation, data analysis, research activities, epidemiology surveillance, outbreak management, auditing and training roles

Overseas volunteer experience at a city council, City of Holdfast Bay in Adelaide, Australia:

  • Administrative Research Assistant (Volunteer) (Feb 每 May 2011) for a coastal water quality and biodiversity project. Liaised with various authorities and research organisations such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).
